Get The Look: Hepburn Edition

Hello Beauties!

In the last post, we reflected on going back in time to a more peaceful place. For both Marin and I it has been a very hectic week. Now it’s time to organize and unwind.

How about we go back in time with a vintage-glamour inspired casual look?

This look is perfect for some quick day trips or an outing, and not so heavy you want to take it off as soon as you get home. Not only does it look fairly natural, it has a subtle sleekness. Inspired by Audrey Hepburn and the pure elegance of the decades past, this look is achievable for all.

To begin, I applied Marin’s go-to BB cream with my (CLEAN) fingers. A BB or CC cream is the best product to use when doing something so simple. Not only is it light and hydrating, it gives just the right amount of coverage. Airbrushed skin is not a casual look!

Next I applied some concealer with a beauty sponge to her current problem areas. Common problems being redness and our most beloved stubborn pimples. When applying do not do so heavily. We don’t want a flat, uniform face, but it’s good to even it out overall.

After finishing the base I moved to the eyes. Using a cream-colored, slightly shimmering shadow, I applied it all over the lid and below the brows. Next take a cool, easily blend-able brown and work it into two thirds of the crease and bring it below the eye. Only to right before the inner corner. Now take a shimmering pink and apply it to the center of the lids. Complete the shadow base with a highlight in the inner corner. To line, I used a light black liquid liner. You do not have to use liquid! It smells fear! I applied a very, very thin line with a small flick that complimented her eye and brought in more of the vintage feel. Do whatever you are most comfortable with. Now finish off with your best lengthening mascara.

Apply highlighter to your cheek bones, forehead, chin, brow bone and nose. We’re mainly strobing here. Use a blush not on the apples of your cheek, but the sides and work up towards the temple. This is how blush was applied a lot of the time in the 50’s.

Brows. Long, boxy, and sleek. Aubrey Hepburn it. I suggest using a very thin brow pencil do achieve this look.

To finish off, wear a light, rose-y tinted lip balm. Natural and hydrating!

I hope you all have fun with this look. Go curl up with some hot chocolate and relax.

Going Back In Time

Hello Beauties!

Recently I’ve noticed that I’ve been completely involved in everything. Whether it’s been school, college, or friend related, I’ve been constantly going. I feel like I’m always working, and when I’m not doing that, I’m just waiting for the next person to text me. I think because of this I’ve been unnecessarily stressed, and I’ve forgotten that this blog is a place for me to destress while connecting with all of you! I love seeing your comments and talking to you guys. It makes me feel so much closer to you!

So let’s all just take a moment, calm down, and be transported back to our favorite place. For me, there is a certain song that reminds me of this moment. Maybe it’s the feeling of wind or the sound of the ocean? Whatever it is, take a moment and reflect.

Now, let’s get into the post.

I was going to talk about Homecoming and share photos and all of that, but you’ve already read it before, so I decided to share this little day trip my mom took me on the last weekend of summer. We went to South Haven, a cute little beach town in Michigan, where we shopped, swam, and read. I couldn’t have come up with a better way to end my summer, so I took photos as to not forget it. Obviously.

I got the best ice cream known to man. I always get it when I visit…

… And we went resale shopping where I spent 20 minutes reading old love letters on postcards…

IMG_7482

… Then we went and read on the beach, which couldn’t have been more relaxing except for the Frat boys in the cottage near us…

… And we finished at our favorite Italian restaurant, Maria’s, where they always seem to run out of tomato sauce and bread sticks. The cannoli was great though!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a moment and remember your favorite moment. Jot some things down and really focus on the details. It’s like taking you back in time. Until next time…

IT’S AUTUMN OOTD!

Hello Beauties!

FALL IS HERE! As you can tell, I love Fall. I love the colors and the weather and the sweaters and hot chocolate. I’m a huge fan of Fall. Fall is life. Fall is everything. Autumn is a great word too. Pre-Winter is kinda ominous. Anyways here is my short, and constructive, OOTD for this week!

For this outfit I wore my H&M knit tights under my favorite PacSun high-waisted shorts. This Autumn will have tons of knee-high socks with dresses and shorts with leggings, which are two things I’m very excited to incorporate into my wardrobe. I grabbed this little bunny-rabbit shirt at the thrift store (it says it’s from H&M) and I finished it off with this mustard sweater from Target as a statement piece. My advice for shoes is to keep ’em simple. I paired my favorite brown heels with this outfit! Quick sidetrack: Lately I’ve been having knee issues so I’m wearing a lot of supportive shoes but when it comes to heels, if you get nice sturdy ones, they won’t really bug me. I guess I felt you should know that. No clue why, it happened. Let’s move on.

Wrapping Up September!

Hello Beauties!

September can be hectic. It’s the month of “getting in the swing of things”. It’s when you’re super tired, school is getting harder, and the weather is changing. For some, all of these differences are welcomed! For others, it’s painful. So let me help you ease into October with these favorite products and tips. Enjoy!

Be sure to take time for you

You deserve it, especially now. You’re taking on clubs, jobs, a social life, work, etc. When you are doing any of that you’re sleeping, or you wish you’re sleeping. Now let’s think about taking a BREAK. Relax a little; you’ll find that’s the only way to not go crazy with your busy life. Grab a blanket and your favorite pillow and chillllll.

Lotion is your best friend

The best way to treat yourself is to keep yourself hydrated, especially with winter coming. Before bed, when you wake up, or any time you feel it, grab your lotion of choice and lather up! Make sure that your morning scent will help you stay awake and your night scent will help calm you.

Don’t worry about the small stuff

The worst thing to do is overthink the little pieces when you’ve got so many big pieces on your plate. Not only are you wasting time and brainpower, but you’re stressing yourself out more. The little things are little. They don’t matter at all. Just stay focused and keep your brain from replaying that awkward interaction in the hallway or that coffee stain you never knew you had all day long. You’ve got better things to do.

Hot baths are also your best friend

Don’t skip out on a nice bubble bath. Never skip out on a nice bubble bath. Don’t even begin to think about life without a nice bubble bath.

Keep everything organized

It’s a waste of time to try to remember everything you have to do. Even if you try to force yourself, it doesn’t work. Don’t do it. Keep a cool planner with compliments and snarky remarks to make you excited about starting your To Do list.

Maybe you’re doing too much?

Maybe you need to cut back on some things. Maybe that Monday night book club isn’t necessary or you have no time this weekend to get anything done. Make sure that you’re putting yourself first; cutting back on your schedule doesn’t make you a failure, it shows that you know yourself and your limits. Better to figure this out now rather than later.

READ (only with tea present)

I’ve been taking a course dedicated to making me read more than I do, and I’ve loved it. Sometimes the last thing you want after perusing over documents and textbooks is to read, but it’s so GOOD for you! Let yourself go a little, not just tune out in front of Netflix. This must have tea involved, no exceptions.

The Naturals: Fall Edition

Hello Beauties!

Fall is in the air! And in the trees! And in our coffee. . . And oreos.

But it is also in our makeup! This is a great transitional time of the year and your clothing and makeup can reflect it. Get creative!

DSC_0082

Marin has a neutral, simple makeup that is perfect for this period. What we’re seeing is cool tones in warm associated colors, like brown and plums*. Marin used a natural, light cool-toned brown over her lid and completed the look with NYX Eyeliner in brown. She also wore NYX creme blush in Tearose, which is  soft and subtle. Just enough to freshen up her skin and give her a slight glow. Creme blushers are perfect for a light and natural effect.

To complete this look, Marin used Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Lipstick in 05, which is a perfect transitional lipstick. The trend is dark lips this fall. Using a darker lip with a cooler tone is a great way to slowly grow darker along with the leaves!

This overall look is light, easy, and attainable for everyone. It’s pretty stinking hard to mess up! Stay tuned for a matching Fashion Friday post! Until then…

Avery

*Artist tip!

Just because browns, oranges, and reds are associated with warmer tones does not mean they cannot be cool! As well as having warmer, cool colors like blue!
