Get The Look: Hepburn Edition

Hello Beauties!

In the last post, we reflected on going back in time to a more peaceful place. For both Marin and I it has been a very hectic week. Now it’s time to organize and unwind.

How about we go back in time with a vintage-glamour inspired casual look?

This look is perfect for some quick day trips or an outing, and not so heavy you want to take it off as soon as you get home. Not only does it look fairly natural, it has a subtle sleekness. Inspired by Audrey Hepburn and the pure elegance of the decades past, this look is achievable for all.

To begin, I applied Marin’s go-to BB cream with my (CLEAN) fingers. A BB or CC cream is the best product to use when doing something so simple. Not only is it light and hydrating, it gives just the right amount of coverage. Airbrushed skin is not a casual look!

Next I applied some concealer with a beauty sponge to her current problem areas. Common problems being redness and our most beloved stubborn pimples. When applying do not do so heavily. We don’t want a flat, uniform face, but it’s good to even it out overall.

After finishing the base I moved to the eyes. Using a cream-colored, slightly shimmering shadow, I applied it all over the lid and below the brows. Next take a cool, easily blend-able brown and work it into two thirds of the crease and bring it below the eye. Only to right before the inner corner. Now take a shimmering pink and apply it to the center of the lids. Complete the shadow base with a highlight in the inner corner. To line, I used a light black liquid liner. You do not have to use liquid! It smells fear! I applied a very, very thin line with a small flick that complimented her eye and brought in more of the vintage feel. Do whatever you are most comfortable with. Now finish off with your best lengthening mascara.

Apply highlighter to your cheek bones, forehead, chin, brow bone and nose. We’re mainly strobing here. Use a blush not on the apples of your cheek, but the sides and work up towards the temple. This is how blush was applied a lot of the time in the 50’s.

Brows. Long, boxy, and sleek. Aubrey Hepburn it. I suggest using a very thin brow pencil do achieve this look.

To finish off, wear a light, rose-y tinted lip balm. Natural and hydrating!

I hope you all have fun with this look. Go curl up with some hot chocolate and relax.

The Naturals: Fall Edition

Hello Beauties!

Fall is in the air! And in the trees! And in our coffee. . . And oreos.

But it is also in our makeup! This is a great transitional time of the year and your clothing and makeup can reflect it. Get creative!

Marin has a neutral, simple makeup that is perfect for this period. What we’re seeing is cool tones in warm associated colors, like brown and plums*. Marin used a natural, light cool-toned brown over her lid and completed the look with NYX Eyeliner in brown. She also wore NYX creme blush in Tearose, which is  soft and subtle. Just enough to freshen up her skin and give her a slight glow. Creme blushers are perfect for a light and natural effect.

To complete this look, Marin used Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Lipstick in 05, which is a perfect transitional lipstick. The trend is dark lips this fall. Using a darker lip with a cooler tone is a great way to slowly grow darker along with the leaves!

This overall look is light, easy, and attainable for everyone. It’s pretty stinking hard to mess up! Stay tuned for a matching Fashion Friday post! Until then…

Avery

*Artist tip!

Just because browns, oranges, and reds are associated with warmer tones does not mean they cannot be cool! As well as having warmer, cool colors like blue!

Meet QWERTY Girl’s New Blogger!

Dear Beauties,

If you are an avid reader of this magnificent blog, or follow Marin on social media, you probably have seen my name/face in a few posts. I am the lucky girl that took her to prom, did urban ballet photos, and have done a few videos with her.

I’m Avery Pieronek! Marin asked for me to partner up with her on a few things involving her blog. So expect to see a post from me on Tuesdays, and participation in some photography and other posts with her.

A little about me! I am a freshman at Washtenaw Community College, going in on a full ride presidential scholarship, currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design with hopes of transferring to Kendall. I am a family girl, and a Michigan girl. I doubt I’ll ever move from this state! Despite my roots being here, my heart is all the way in England with a boy named Ben. Go check him out his blog here.

What I hope to bring to this blog is a different level of makeup. Occasionally I will plug for makeup that I truly feel is worth the investment, seeing as I usually purchase higher end brands from Sephora. While Marin deals with the stuff that won’t break your budget, I will bring you the products that you can invest in without the doubt of whether its worth it!

Not only will I discuss high end makeup, but I will discuss higher end photography and and give you updates on my journey to mastering the camera and how to master the surroundings.

This is still all Marin! I’m just helping to keep the work load down now that she’s all grown up in her senior year. I look forward to becoming a bigger part of her community.

And alike any blogger, I shall sign off Avery style.

Pies, Photos, and Polish Polka,

Avery

How to Ace a Job Interview

Hello Beauties!

Sorry that things have been a little quiet on Qwerty Girl, my WIFI has been switched out and there have been a couple of glitches. Also, college essays are “happening”. Excuses, excuses.

Today I ROCKED this interview for a senior internship and I was so inspired to write this post showing you my makeup, outfit, and anything else I needed to feel completely prepared and ready to kick booty. Let’s get started.

Interview

Whenever you are doing anything job related, ya gotta look professional. So I opted for my Forever21 army green dress and matching heels. I also paired my chunky chain necklace with it because I’ll be interning at an artsy place with artsy people. This necklace is artsy.

I wanted to keep my makeup simple– I’m not pretending to be twenty-four; what you see is what you get. I used my NYX Shimmer Stick as an eyeshadow, then added my NYX Eyeliner in brown and my favorite Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. The only base I used is the Revlon Photo Ready BB Cream. It applies like a dream and doesn’t look heavy. To finish it off I used my favorite Rimmel London Kate Moss lipstick in 05.

Now that you look like a true member of the workforce, you gotta be prepared. It’s so, so, so smart to carry a notebook with you. It makes you seem organized, competent, and eager to start your work ASAP. Plus, you never know when you might need to catch a name, number, email, company name, etc. Also have your planner for basically everything. Let’s face it, a busy person like you can’t afford to forget anything.

And that’s all you need! Now go show your true colors, and if the job is the right one they will love you! Keep checking in for a slightly more organized and regular schedule here. Until then…

Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks,

Marin

My July Favorites

Hello Beauties!

I haven’t done one of these in a while, have I? Well, I had a lot of favorites this month and it only seems natural to share them with all of you! Also, tell me what your favorite was this month!

MAC July Favs

What the what is this concealer and how have I never used it before?! I love, love, love it for natural coverage under tired eyes and whatever spots decide to pop up that day. And no worries — once this concealer is on it isn’t coming off. All day. Plus it smells AMAZING! I don’t get it but I don’t question it either.

NYX July Favs

Once again NYX has outdone themselves with these affordable and very pigmented lip colors. They apply like a lip gloss and then matte in beautiful shades of pinks, reds, and nudes. Even though the color doesn’t last super long, I’ll definitely be grabbing more of these.

Stila July Favs

I picked this up years ago, way before I ever knew what to do with it! Now I’m so happy with the results. A beautiful highlight and contour duo for someone who is going for a more natural look this summer. If only middle school Marin could have appreciated you more!

ULTA July Favs

I’ve been meaning to pick up these beautiful gel liner pens from Ulta, and I’m so happy that I finally got around to it! I’m not a huge black eyeliner fanatic, mostly because I can’t seem to get the same line twice. But these easily bendable and lighter shades have been perfect for whatever look I’m going for. Because no one has time for a messy cat eye, am I right?

July Favs Shea

I love this incredibly natural scent that lasts for hours with the Body Shop’s Shea Mist and Lotion. I wear them everyday, and they are not overpowering at all, which is what I prefer most of the time.

Book July Favs

I’ve only re-read two books in my life; The Run Away Pony in third grade and now this. Even though it isn’t the most amazing book you’ll ever read, something about the historical events tied in with a fictional romance and the adventures between friends, all while in the heart of Paris, gets me every time.

Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks,

Marin
